Fourth-place Arsenal travel to fourteenth-place West Ham on Saturday for a London derby, buoyed after a 5-1 mid-week victory in Portugal. West Ham, despite a rough start to their campaign, will also be entering the match with some momentum having won away at Newcastle last week. Last year’s fixture saw Arsenal win 6-0. Another result like that would be most welcome. Mikel Arteta’s men have seemingly broken their goal draught, scoring 8 goals in their last two games, coinciding with the return of their talisman and captain, Martin Ødegaard. The Gunners will be hoping to continue this momentum against the Hammers. They will still be without Takehiro Tomiyasu and Ben White.
Julen Lopetegui’s side have been poor to start the season. And the manager will be watching from the stands after acquiring a red card in the last PL match. In addition, West Ham will be without Edson Alvarez, Mohammed Kudus, and Niclas Fullkrug. Still, in Jerod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta, the Hammers will be hoping they can crack the Arsenal defense.
Will Arsenal keep up the pressure on leaders Liverpool? Or will West Ham heap more misery on an Arsenal team expected by most to compete for the title for a third successive year? Join us on Saturday of this holiday weekend, and we’ll learn the answer together.
